Dressed for Romance

I always dream of a balcony when summer comes knocking.
A bottle of wine makes a cameo. We are talking about good wine here, one that i don't have to open myself, cuz i am useless at that.
Cue the music please, a jazz tune, with a rimshot with enough sass to have passerbys dare dig holes in the cloak of night just for a mere glance. And of course cigarettes, for the look, can't do aerobics with a collapsed lungs now :).
Summer is romance. it's sticky, it's intoxicating it's HAWT!
Romance needs many things: excitement, lust, intimacy, stolen glances, if you a lucky loads of sex:)... and of course a gown is one of them. Pardon me, i meant gowns!:)
so let's dress her
in Rodarte.

But let's save that for dinner, for a ball or a party that never quite leaves the front door:)For the day, for the day, something by Malene Birger comes to mind

Bantu and the Beach

Wish i was headed for sunny shores then i could justify purchasing a Bantu piece, le bikini of course, one-pieces are so darn hard to get out of, especially when you need the toilet! Really how do people do it?

The ethical label, headed by Yodit Eklund, creates eye-catching swimwear for both men and women using African wax cloth. I like their collection and the styling warrants a nod of approval, it's fun and the models look like they could pack a punch! Check out the rest of their collection here.

Suno NY

Sunshine courtesy of Max Osterweis!
It's so easy to get it wrong when trying to merge African inspired prints with Western aesthetics in a manner that suits both parties. You can go wrong with the style and have cuts that are way too stiff, or lose sense of colour and mismatch.
But Suno is pure perfection! Their new autumn/winter collection makes me very happy! i want!

I with the Ban.do

An hour seeped away
sprawled in the grass
hand in hand
a dream embraces
and keeps reality at an arm's length

Ban.do
makes me think of happy ethereal things. Fleeting, yet memorable. Guess it's to with the fact that it conjures images of a time when people were charged: political, emotionally, creatively, spritually, sexually; twas the 60/70s baby!:)
I with Jen and Jamie, the two super laid-back and cool stylists/designers behind the brand! I want to audition for their band:) i can play the tambourine, you know :)

A Statement of Desire

I want!
As does everyone else on the "fashionable orbit" , because in case you didn't get the memo, or forgot to tune in for the broadcast, it's the season of le "statement jewellery".
As i don't wear jewellery on a normal basis( no ear rings, no watch, no nothing ) when i do decide to give them a go, i don't go for a statement, no, i much prefer the equivalent of reciting a page-long soliloquy :)

The little beauty in question is by London based designer Mawi. Ms. Mawi Keivom makes very unapologetically precious jewellery; she is definitely into soliloquies as well :) just check out a piece from her latest collection on Little Boots.
It's no suprise Mawi is so uber talented, as she honed her skills under the likes of Isaac Mizrahi, Bill Amberg and Vita Couture. Dreamy.

Now how to go about saving for this particular beauty!

Incognito the hip way

I have a thing for poets, so well it's not surprising that the Unknown Hipster has stolen my heart. He brings me the memories of crayon stained fingers. Perhaps i should write him a sonnet or a haiku, because i can't draw as well as he does. His work is gorgeous. Did i mention he is French and played the tambourine. I played the tambourine, at home on the couch, i was a one-man band and there was that time when i dabbled in shaking maracas ever so vigourously. Good thing i discovered writing and fashion :)
This image is of the very talented Sartorialist and Garance dore- oh to be french!. I wish i could draw. Some other spring i guess

Summer times!

Look everybody, it's me!! It is i tell you! Erhhh, if i was white and if i didn't believe in wearing a helmet (safety on the bike is a must, especially after many near-death experiences on London roads), and of course if my bike didn't get stolen... loads of ifs here!:)

I love the Sartorialist! I mean what a name! wish i had come with it. And Scott is quite dreamy no? dreamy to the power of infinity!?

Premonitions

This made me smile.
because "We know the truth, not only by the reason, but by the heart". Blaise Pascal
And what a way to go about it: make it a fashionable T-shirt!

Kitsuné and Mrs Robinson

"And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson"

Apologies Mrs. Robinson, but on this occasion it seems Ben Braddock will be getting in bed with Kitsuné.

For their spring/summer 2009 collection French label Kitsuné's has looked to the The Graduate for inspiration . This makes me very happy as I am the kind of girl who prefers dresses with pockets, smart pant suits and quaint little cardigans. Really, why do people make dresses without pockets in the first place!

Japanese for fox, Kitsuné was set up in 2002 and is more of a lifestyle brand than a fashion label, with a music record label and charming boutique under its belt. It's the kind of brand you would expect that effortlessly hip girl/boy you meet on the train everyday to wear.

Beginnings.

"Once upon an old moon
I navigated passed a map sprawled over a kitchen table
forgot that my father never taught me to read a compass
grabbed my wit
and set sail for adventure." Fashion and Fables

Welcome to one leg of my adventure. Fashion and Fables. You don't have to take your shoes off, i never do and this i hear will wreck havoc on my floors! oh well!

Fashion and Fables is like a little pretty box of keepsakes. Preserving the old or new, shocking or saccharine, heartwarming or energizing....... things celebrating all that inspires beauty, both imagined and real.

I hope you enjoy as much as i will.

Do you like the picture? I do. In fact, i like it so much that i have it framed in my room. It's called "Midsummer White" and it is was taken by the very talented David Bailey in July of 1965. Summer is still weeks away, but i like it a lot. It makes me think of a girl setting out from the comforts of all she knows and dressed boldly to hide the creases of insecurities.
